Guarda

Guarda is the highest city in Portugal, located at about 1050 metres above sea level in the Beira Alta region. Its historic centre is surrounded by medieval walls and includes the Sé Cathedral, an imposing building from the 16th to 18th centuries. The city is known for its cold climate and the production of Serra da Estrela cheese. It is a strategic starting point to explore the Serra da Estrela and the historic villages of the region.
