Located at the heart of the historical centre of Leiria, Sant’Ana square is a quite busy spot of the city, mainly because of the beautiful Sant’Ana Market, a roaring cultural centre offering interesting events all year long.

In this district you will see outstanding examples of modernist architecture, dating back to the first decades of the 20th century, designed by architect Santa Rita. Housed in these amazing buildings, several restaurants, shops and charming cafés.

Independent Arquivo bookshop was founded in the 80’s of the 20th century by a man of vision who has deeply developed the cultural scene of the city, engineer Ribeiro Vieira. Arquivo organises several cultural activities, such as exhibits, workshops, book presentations, book readings, talks with writers, creative writing lessons, you name it. It is a very peaceful place, where you can still read the classics (and not today’s airport literature), while drinking a nice cup of coffee at the bookshop bar.

Improviso Pop Up Store is a challenging concept store that promotes the “crème de la crème” of Portuguese design. This enchanting store is situated at the iconic Sant’Ana Market, selling very original decor items, shoe-wear, lighting and furniture.

If you’re fond of home-made ice-creams, you must go to Fior di Latte, housed in the former palace of Guerra family. And if you’re into crèpes, try Permarcarti and its superb home-made flavours!
